Rotomolded manhole is an underground inspection chamber or utility access point manufactured using rotational molding (rotomolding), a process that creates a single-piece, hollow, and seamless structure from plastic resin-most commonly Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE) or HDPE. These manholes are highly durable, corrosion-resistant, and lighter than traditional concrete, designed for non-pressurized sewage, water, and utility infrastructure.
Key Aspects of Rotomolded Manholes:
Manufacturing Process: Plastic powder is loaded into a heated hollow mold that rotates on two axes, allowing the material to melt and evenly coat the inside. This method results in superior strength at the corners and consistent wall thickness.
Material: Primarily crafted from durable, weather-resistant, and corrosion-resistant polyethylene (MDPE or HDPE), making them ideal for aggressive environments.
Design & Structure: They often feature corrugated exteriors for structural strength and to act as anchors in concrete, preventing vertical movement. They are usually black or grey but can have white interior surfaces for improved visibility.
